September: The month where learning of history and life starts

Though the months of summer in the northern hemisphere have passed, the season is yet on its last legs until the autumnal equinox happens somewhere between September 20th – 22nd.

The word “equinox” comes from a Latin word meaning, “equal night”. The equinoxes in March and September are the two times each year when day and night are of equal duration. There will be 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night. The hours of the night will then increase until the winter, which holds the shortest day of the year.

The autumnal equinox signals the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere. This is the time the sun crosses the Earth’s equator on its way south. At the equinox, the sun rises directly in the east and sets directly in the west. In the northern hemisphere, before the autumnal equinox, the sun rises and sets more and more to the north, and afterwards, it rises and sets more and more to the south.

Many ancient and old cultures worshiped the sun and paid close attention to its movement across the heavens. The sun was the giver of life, the creator. Cultures created rituals and various ceremonies celebrating this time as this was the time when day and night were equal and the harvests were ready.

Today, much of our life is influenced by our history. Our calendars, our celebrations and holidays and even our school years. This is the time we used in our history to study, that way children and young adults could work with their parents during the summer on the farm or in the workplace.

There are many things to learn in school that you can apply in life. History is the record of events that have happened (or may not have happened) in our past. Math is a language using numbers / amounts and is considered by many to be a universal language (spoken by all). Find a purpose, a why, for the things you study and you will be better able to learn.

Study step by step, make pictures and look at the real thing when you can and always keep a dictionary close to your side. Ask questions. If you aren’t certain what something is, look it up and ask about it.

There are many things in this world to learn about. Find things you’re interested in and read about them. Get your basics that the schools give you so you are better able to learn the things you want.

Like Calvin in Calvin & Hobbes (based off of the philosophers), he says, why is it school never teaches you what you want to learn?

Learn all you can for it will help you achieve the things you want. Life is a learning process and with information, you will be better equipped to handle it.

Enjoy this paper as it’s dedicated to the time we all love (ya, right), the start of school and the beginning of fall.

As we travel through September, don’t forget the people who died needlessly due to irrationality on the 11th of September. Let’s light a candle for them and the firefighters who died trying to save them on that fateful day.

We, as a people on this planet, are strong and can learn a lot from our history. Let’s take this upcoming year and learn more about our past so we can create our own futures.

For now, take a time out and enjoy what we have in store for you in this month’s edition of RuneHQ’s paper.

Please also wish MrStormy a Happy Birthday.

I will make a thread in Off Topic where you can post your birthday wishes.
